divide the total number of freshmen and sophomore students, which is 2,200 to 11, the sum of the ratio 6 and 5 (6+5=11)

the answer to that is 200. 200 is equivalent to 1 in the ratio. so to get the freshmen students whose ratio is 6, you need to multiply 200 to 6 because, as what i've said earlier that 200 is equal to 1. (what will you multiply to 1 to get 6, 6 right? ) answer: 200*6= 1200

after that, you also need to get the sophomore students. you just need to multiply 200 by 5. answer: 200*5= 1000

check: 6: 5 ; 1200: 1000 = 2,200 (1200+1000=2,200)

then by getting the other numbers are quite easy since the ratio overall is, 6: 5: 4: 3

all you have to do is to multiply 200 by 4 and 3. 
200*4=800
200*3=600

lastly, add all 4 numbers.
1200+1000+800+600= 3600

and you get 3600.
